Waves (11Acd13)

Sheet 06 Beats.

  1. In an experiment, it was found that a tuning fork and a sonometer wire gave 5 beats per second, when the length of the wire was \(1.0m\) and \(1.05m\). Calculate: The frequency of the fork.

    Ans: \(\nu=205Hz\).

  2. Calculate: the speed of sound in a gas in which two waves of eave length \(1.0m\) and \(1.01m\) produces \(10\) beats in \(3Sec\).

    Ans: \(v=336.7\frac{m}{s}\).

  3. A column of air and a tuning fork produces \(4\) beats per second when sounded together. The tuning fork gives the lower note and the temperature of the air being \(15^{o}C\). When the temperature has fallen to \(10^{o}C\), The two produces \(3\) beats per second. Find: the frequency of the fork?

    Ans: \(\nu_{fork}=110Hz\).

  4. What is the velocity of the sound in a gas in which two waves of lengths \(1m\) and \(0.991m\) produces \(3\frac{beats}{Sec}\).

    Ans: \(v=330.3\frac{m}{s}\).

  5. Two parts of a sonometer is divided by a movable knife differ by \(2mm\) and produce one neat per second when sounded together. Find: their frequencies if the whole length of the wire is \(1m\).

    Ans: \(\nu_{1}=249.5Hz\) and \(\nu_{2}=250.5Hz\).

  6. Two tuning forks A and B gives \(5\frac{beats}{Sec}\). A resonates with a closed column of air \(15cm\) long and B with an open air column \(30.5cm\) long. Calculate: Their Frequencies. Neglect end corrections.

    Ans: \(\nu_{1}=3.5Hz\) and \(\nu_{2}=300Hz\).

  7. Two identical piano have a fundamental frequency of \(600Hz\). When kept under same tension. What fractional increase in tension of the one wire will lead to the occurrence of \(6\frac{beats}{Sec}\) when both wires oscillates simultaneously?

    Ans: \(\frac{\Delta T}{T}=2\%\).

  8. At \(16^{o}C\), two open end organ pipes, when sounded together give \(14Beats\) in \(2Seconds\). how many beats per second will be produced if the temperature is raised to \(51^{o}C\)? Neglect increase in length of pipe due to increment in temperature.

    Ans: \(7.4\frac{beats}{Sec}\).

  9. When two tuning fork are sounded together, \(4\frac{beats}{Sec}\) are heard. One the fork is in unison with \(0.96m\) length of a sonometer wire and the other is in unison with \(0.97m\) length of the same wire. Calculate: frequency of each.

    Ans: \(\nu_{1}=388Hz\) and \(\nu_{2}=384Hz\).
